Quinton O'Hara - Original Oil Painting - Homage to Greuze The Laundress
DON’T FORGET TO LOOK AT MY OTHER ADS!
An original oil on canvas by the Bangor, Co. Down artist Quinton O'Hara (b. 1927), painted in 2008: his own homage to Jean-Baptiste Greuze's celebrated 18th-century masterpiece "The Laundress" (La Blanchisseuse, 1761), now in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
O'Hara takes Greuze's famous subject and makes it his own.
A young maidservant in a lace bonnet and blue dress bends over an earthenware basin, wringing out her linen, and glances out at the viewer with the knowing look that made Greuze's original the talk of the 1761 Paris Salon.
Painted at much the same scale as Greuze's original, it's a charming tribute from an artist best known for his finely detailed still lifes, whose work has appeared regularly at auction.
