PIUS XI (Pope 1922-1939) - a vintage Holy Jubilee Year 1933/1934 medal

For sale is a vintage religious medal issued to commemorate the Holy Jubilee Year 1933 - 1934. The obverse shows a nicely engraved image of Pope Pius XI with fine details and on the reverse side an image of Christ, modelled on the Christ the Redeemer statue of Brazil that was completed only a couple of years before in 1931. The figure of Christ is flanked by an image of Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican and Mount Calvary with the three crosses. The obverse text reads PIO XI-P.M. ROMA-ANNO SANTO 1933-1934 and the reverse-side text reads REDEMPTOR MUNDI (Christ as Redeemer of the World).

The Holy Jubilee Year of 1933 was announced by pope Pius XI in commemoration of the 1900th anniversary of the year of Jesus's death and resurrection.
