Oil painting of a quiet woodland lane: a weathered wooden gate in the foreground, with the path curving away beneath dense green trees. Muted, naturalistic palette with finely dabbed foliage.

Unsigned and unattributed; the artist, location and date are not identified.

Reverse: sealed paper backing carrying the label of Charles Webb, The Print Shop, 4 Crampton Quay and Creation Arcade, Grafton Street, Dublin 2, with the number 8303 in ink.

Provenance interest: the reverse carries the original label of Charles Webb, The Print Shop, 4 Crampton Quay and Creation Arcade, Grafton Street, Dublin 2, numbered 8303 in ink. Webb's framed work for leading Irish artists: Whyte's has sold a Gerard Dillon in its original Charles Webb frame, and a Charles Lamb framed by Webb.

The Creation Arcade address dates this label to 1959 or later. This painting is unsigned and is not attributed to Dillon, Lamb or any other artist. Webb was the framer/retailer.

Size: image approx. 38cm; framed 29cm in height.

Cream-painted moulded frame with a gilt slip.

Condition: consistent with age. Paint on the frame is worn and chipped at the edges and corners. The backing paper has age spotting, and the original twine hanging cord should be replaced before hanging.
