Original hanging ceiling lamp with a ribbed shade made of holophane glass (Holophane)
An original Art Deco-era (1920s–1930s) hanging ceiling lamp featuring a ribbed Holophane glass shade.
Prismatic glass (Holophane): Characterized by vertical ribbing and a ruffled (wavy) finish along the bottom edge of the shade. This type of glass was designed to diffuse and soften light effectively.
The upper section of the lamp (the gallery) is made of dark metal with a visible patina and features decorative vertical vents, originally designed to dissipate heat from traditional light bulbs. At the very top, there is a loop for suspending the lamp from a hook or chain.
Lamps of this style were widely used in the early 20th century in public buildings, factories, and churches, as well as in elegant French and British interiors.
