Original Art Nouveau Brass Dressing Table Pieces. Photo Frame and Repousse Tray
Two original Art Nouveau (c1900-1910) pieces in solid brass.
A charming, easel-backed photo frame, modelled in high relief with the maiden-and-flowing-drapery motif typical of the period, a young woman with upswept hair stands entwined in stems of flowers along one edge of the frame, with her gown trailing into the foliate/floral border. The reverse has its original red felt-lined backboard and matching felt-covered strut, held by two brass rivets, and the frame stands securely and squarely on its own.
The frame measures 15cm by 12cm and is a substantial 324g weight. The glass is intact and the brass has a warm, lightly aged patina consistent with its age with no re-plating or repair. This is a lovely small piece for a dressing table, bookshelf, or desk and is a genuine period example of Art Nouveau metalware rather than a later reproduction.
With the frame is an elegant brass tray, hand-worked repoussé with a continuous band of stylised tulips and trailing leaves across the well of the tray. Is has shaped, scalloped rims at each end. This would originally have sat on a dressing table or writing desk for rings, cufflinks, pens or trinkets.
The tray measures 28.5cm x 12cm x 2cm. The brass shows a natural age patina with light surface marks consistent with genuine use and age, there are no dents, splits or repairs.
