.
For sale is a blood donor badge issued by the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Board (NIBTS). This badge was given for a minimum of 15 blood donations.
The NIBTS was established by the Ministry of Health in 1946 and owes it origins to the Belfast Blood Transfusion Service established by Dr. Thomas Houston during the First World War (1914-1918).
The pelican has been the emblem of both the NIBTS and the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) since their foundation in 1946 and 1948 respectively.
