For sale is a beautifully-made silver blood donor badge issued by the National Blood Transfusion Board (NBTS) of England and Wales. This badge would have been awarded by the NBTS for a minimum of 25 blood donations. The badge displays the NBTS logo of two entwined hearts surmounted by a crown. This badge is die-stamped into a domed shape, enamelled and fully hallmarked for 1959, a quality-made badge.

The NBTS was established by the Ministry of Health in 1946 to coordinate regional blood donation services across England and Wales. In 2005 the national blood donor services (by now, known as National Blood Service) was amalgamated with the UK Transplant services to form the NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT). Also from 2005, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland would continue to run their own separate blood donor services.

Finish: polished to a bright reflective surface on front side only.
Fitting: pin. These badges were also made with buttonhole fittings.Buttonhole "gents" badges issued to male donors and the pin-fitted badges issued to female donors.
Imprint: BLOOD DONOR Rd 855608 (1948/1949 - year of first issue). Hallmarked Birmingham (K) and maker's mark HWM for H. W. Miller Ltd of Birmingham.
Approximate age: 1959/1960
