For sale is a very scarce membership enamelled badge of the MARY ROSE HOUSEWIVES LEAGUE newspaper club. The club was established by the Daily Sketch newspaper in 1940 and provided a forum for club members to share useful hits and tips on looking after the home, mend-and-make-do, growing own food, etc as well as allowing members to share their own ideas, anecdotes and stories through the newspaper's club column.

The badge's design is based on a Tudor Rose with the letter M in the centre. The M stood for Mary Rose, who acted as the "Honoury Aunt" of the club. Newspaper clubs, especially those aimed at children had a Honoury Aunt or Uncle, or sometimes both, to provide a contact name for all the club's correspondences. On completion of the application form (as found in the newspaper's club column), each new member would receive a handbook along with their membership badge.

Clubs such as the Mary Rose Housewives League had a useful wartime function through informing and educating people in more efficient ways in the running of their households, as well as helping to keep up public moral during wartime.
