LADIES GOLF UNION IMF (International Match Fund) - participant's badge (1970's or earlier)
Postage is extra.
.
For sale is a vintage enamel badge issued by the LADIES GOLF UNION on behalf of the International Match Fund (IMF).
The IMF was a way of raising money to support international ladies golf matches. This was especially important post-WW2 when more English golf clubs were becoming involved in international matches but at the same time chronically short of funds. Clubs donated to the IMF and those which donated over a certain amount received IMF badges for their players, such as this one.
The Ladies’ Golf Union (LGU) was formed in 1893 were the governing body for ladies’ amateur golf throughout Britain and Ireland. The primary objectives of the LGU being to uphold the rules of the games and advocate on issues in support of ladies’ golf. In 2017, the LGU was merged with the R&A (Royal & St. Andrew's), the letter being the governing body for men's golf.
