An authentic late 18th-century engraved road map of Ireland, published circa 1777, showing the historic route from Dublin to Castlebar and Newport via Athlone, Ballinasloe, Tuam and Hollymount.

The map was engraved by Thomas Kitchin (1718–1784), one of Britain’s foremost cartographic engravers, with the plate signed “Terry Sculp.” at the bottom. The original hand colouring highlights roads, rivers, towns and estates, making it both historically important and highly decorative.

The reverse carries its original Phyllis Arnold Gallery Antiques, Greyabbey, Co. Down certificate stating the map is genuine and over 200 years old.

This map records an Ireland long before the Ordnance Survey, naming many prominent landowners, coaching roads, rivers and settlements exactly as they appeared in the late Georgian period. A wonderful piece of Irish transport, genealogy and local history.
