Historique Chinese Soapstone Lotus Leaf Scholar's Brush Washer Tray Dish Hand Carved A beautiful early 20th century Chinese hand carved soapstone lotus leaf brush washer tray. The tray or dish depicts a beautifully detailed lotus leaf with swooping curled edges. On the outside edge there is a lotus blossom, a lotus bud and what looks like sheared bamboo stalks.

The stone is of soft golden tans and greys. The rich colour variance and striation is lovely. The interior of the brush tray and the exterior are both scored with leaf veins. This design was traditionally found in scholar’s brush washer trays.



It is in very good condition. There are some minor scuffs and dings but no notable chips, cracks or breaks. Stunning craftsmanship.

A beautiful display piece or perfect for holding trinkets and keepsakes. Great for an artist's studio.
