The three letters are to the Clerk of the House of Lords, Cuthbert Headlam. Headlam's bookplates are on verso of covers of both copies. The letters refer to Shaw's intention to provide all the members of the committee with a copy of his statement in order to speed up the proceedings and perhaps, help to promote the sale of the Blue Book. He sent 13 copies to Headlam but Shaw's plan was thwarted by the committee which refused to allow him to read his statement into the record. This upset Shaw who wrote referring to "Lord Gorell's Little coup de theatre" hoping it did not prevent anyone reading his statement. The three mss. letters in Shaw's neat hand on his letterheaded notepaper were sent on July, 22nd, 29th, and August 12th, 1909. All three are signed.
