French P1829 Mounted Artillery Trooper's Sword
Clean blade with inscription rubbed but date still readable. The full inscription was likely "Manufacture Imperiale de Chatellerault [month] 1857". Brass hilt with leather wrapped grip. Poincons (acceptance marks) on blade and hilt. Steel scabbard with some pitting visible. Blade sits very tight in the scabbard. This sword pattern was designed following trooper's complaints that P1822 light cavalry swords are too long and hinder their manoeuvrability.
