Extremely rare, 1927 Pattern, Officer’s Service Dress cap badge for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
Designed in 1926 to reflect ‘a purer and more correct’ image of Enniskillen Castle, this Pattern was Sealed on 3rd March 1927, but due to unpopularity of the 1-piece construction of the white metal, Other Ranks cap badge, was replaced in 1934.
The white metal ORs version was unpopular - largely due to the manufacturing process which altered the image of Enniskillen Castle - and was often referenced as ‘Aughter Castle’ after the residence of Colonel R. C. Smythe, who originally applied for the change of design. One Inniskilling’s Officer - Colonel Lloyd-Davidson - referred to the ORs badge as ‘Smythe’s Barn’.
The Officer’s examples were far superior, retaining the original, 2-piece design and were produced in both silver and bronze. This original bronze example measures approximately 3cm by 4cm; is beautifully cast in solid bronze with superb detail; and each piece retains the original tangs.
A rare opportunity to add to your collection, this beautiful Officer’s badge for the prestigious Inniskilling Fusiliers.
