Original 1970s/80s An Garda Síochána Greatcoat – True Pre-1987 Bulls-Wool Era. A collectors dream.


This is the real thing. A genuine, long-obsolete Garda Síochána double-breasted greatcoat from the classic dark “bulls-wool” period (1970s–mid 1980s). Heavy black wool, original silver metal buttons, full shoulder epaulettes and the distinctive rear half-belt — exactly as worn by Gardaí on formal occasions and cold winter nights before the 1987 uniform change. This coat belonged to a relative who has since passed. It has remained carefully stored ever since and is now being offered to a serious collector or someone who understands the history.

These old greatcoats almost never surface. Most were destroyed or discarded when the force modernised. Finding one in this original form, complete with the correct period buttons and cut, is genuinely uncommon.

Condition is honest vintage — some light wear — but the coat is structurally sound, all buttons are present, and it still carries that unmistakable Garda presence. This is a pure historical artefact.
