For sale is a vintage enamelled money-clip showing the Clifton Suspension Bridge on the River Avon near Bristol. This clip (for notes only) would have been part of a range of merchandise related to the bridge sold to visitors at the bridge and in the general area. The enamelled plaque affixed to this clip would have also been reproduced in the form of a pin badge.

Construction of the Clifton Suspension Bridge over the Avon River Gorge started in 1831 and was opened to traffic in 1864. It is still in use for general traffic to this day with up to 12,000 vehicles crossing it each day. The bridge's design was completed by William Henry Barlow and John Hawkshaw, based on an initial design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The bridge was originally constructed mainly of wrought iron with thick timber sleepers and since 1897 the wooden decking has been covered with asphalt. The two towers were built mainly of local Pennant stone.

Material(s): brass metal enamelled plaque with 3 vitreous enamels. Pin of a non-ferrous metal, perhaps brass?
Finish: enamelled plaque tin plated, clip chrome plated.
Fitting: springy clip.
Imprint: none.
Approximate age: 1960's.

CONDITION:
Excellent condition. No damage. Clip in working order.
