The Army Youth Selection Centre was a section of the British Army responsible for the selection of potential recruits with the best aptitudes and to match them with their respective trades and regiments. It was about selecting sufficient recruits of the right qualities to best suit the army's needs. Potential recruits would join a Selection Centre and get their first taste of army life there and at the same time undergo many tests and written examinations to gauge their potential as a suitable recruit. I presume these badges were given to those who underwent the selection process but if anyone can confirm this, I'd be grateful to hear from you.
