ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ARMCHAIR WITH MYSTERIOUS NUMBER 232 – €350
Step into history with this striking Victorian-era armchair.
Hand-carved from solid dark wood, the dramatic high back and sweeping arms are covered in rich scrollwork, acanthus leaves and decorative flourishes. The wood has developed a beautiful, warm patina that only genuine age can give.
The vibrant red seat adds a bold splash of colour and surprising comfort.
The real talking point?
Right in the centre of the ornate backrest, protected inside its own carved cartouche, is the number 232.
Where did it come from?
We believe this chair once lived in a Victorian train station waiting room. In the age of steam, many grand stations furnished their waiting areas with numbered, heavy-duty armchairs so passengers could be directed to a specific seat while they waited for their train. The robust cast-iron pedestal base with its elegant curved legs was built to survive decades of daily public use — exactly the kind of furniture you’d find in a busy station hall.
Imagine the stories: excited families heading to the seaside, businessmen with pocket watches checking the departure board, soldiers returning home… all resting on chair number 232.
Today it’s ready for a new chapter in your home — perfect as a statement reading chair, desk chair, or conversation piece in a living room, study or even a vintage-style café or shop.
Price: €350
Solid, characterful, and full of history. A true one-of-a-kind piece.
Serious buyers welcome — viewing recommended.
Local pickup preferred (heavy piece).
DM to reserve or ask any questions. This chair won’t stay numbered 232 for long!
