Antique Japanese Satsuma Tea Service (Meiji Period) Signed Taniguchi
Antique Japanese Satsuma Tea Service — Meiji Period, Signed Taniguchi (Complete Set for Six)
A beautiful and complete antique Japanese Satsuma tea service, Meiji period (late 19th / early 20th century), finely hand-painted and bearing the gold Taniguchi (谷口) workshop mark to the base.
Decorated in the traditional Satsuma manner on a softly crackled cream ground, with cascading purple wisteria, chrysanthemums and garden foliage, figures in kimono, and fine black-and-gold key-fret borders throughout. Richly gilded handles, spouts and finials. All hand-painted — not transfer-printed.
The set comprises:
• Teapot with lid
• Covered sugar bowl
• Covered milk / creamer jug
• 6 cups
• 6 saucers
A genuine complete matched service for six — pot, sugar, creamer and all twelve cups and saucers present and matching.
Details:
• Meiji period, c. late 19th / early 20th century
• Signed Taniguchi (谷口) in gold seal mark to base
• Hand-painted wisteria & chrysanthemum garden decoration
• Fine gilt work throughout
• Traditional crackle-glaze Satsuma earthenware
Condition: Good honest antique condition for its age, with light crackle and gilt wear consistent with the period. There is one small chip to the inner flange on the underside of the teapot lid — not visible when the lid is in place, and not affecting display or use. All other pieces sound and intact. Please study the photographs, which form part of the description.
A lovely decorative and collectable set, ideal for collectors of Japanese Satsuma, Meiji ceramics, or antique tea services.
