Antique iron Marlin spike (19th century)
Up for grabs is a 12" long antique marlin spike, used by sailors to secure lines and sometimes to undo difficult knots. While I do not know for sure the date of this marlin spike, they started to become popular in the 17th and 18th centuries and continued to be useful and popular into the 19th even with the advent of steam powered ships. My best guess is that this spike dates from sometime in the mid to late 19th century - see photo.
Note: the iron spike is a weighty item, around 500g or more. If you're interested in it, place a mutually acceptable offer and we can work out collection / postage. I normally use An Post, and rates vary, but I can confirm current costs if you're interested in buying. I would send as a packet or in a box.
