Antique French Berlingots Nantais Sweet Tin Nantes c.1900-1925
Original French confectionery tin for À la Renommée des Véritables Berlingots Nantais, from 4 Place Royale, Nantes.
A particularly attractive early 20th-century advertising tin with elaborate lithographed decoration covering the lid and all four sides, including fruit, flowers, cocoa pods and the illustrated female figure on the lid.
The Musée d'Histoire de Nantes holds examples of À la Renommée tins and dates this type of Nantes confectionery advertising to the early 20th century. The shop at 4 Place Royale was already operating before the First World War.
The lid also carries the small printer/manufacturer credit A. Riom & L. Chambon, Nantes.
Good display piece despite its age. There is considerable age-related wear including scratches, paint loss, marks and oxidation, particularly internally, but the colourful exterior artwork remains remarkably complete and attractive. Please see all photographs for condition.
