Antique Caswell Runyan Tennessee Red Cedar Chest, Style 4215, Restoration

Beautiful original Caswell–Runyan Tennessee Red Cedar chest, made by the Caswell–Runyan Co. of Huntington, Indiana, USA.

A very unusual and highly decorative piece with ornate carved/applied geometric and floral detailing to the front, turned legs and stretchers, and a wonderful cedar interior.

The original manufacturer’s Caswell–Runyan stamp remains inside the chest, together with the original paper label stating that the chest contains genuine three-quarter-inch Tennessee Red Cedar.

PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: This is an old, unrestored piece and has age-related wear, marks and finish loss. One of the turned legs is split/damaged and requires structural repair. This is clearly shown in the photographs and the chest is being sold as a restoration project.

I have deliberately left the piece unrestored rather than attempting a modern repair or refinishing it.

A beautiful statement storage/blanket chest and a very interesting restoration project.
