Up for sale is a fascinating piece of 18th-century social history: a genuine 1798 Isle of Man copper coin that was intentionally modified and repurposed into a heavy two-hole garment button.Obverse Side: Features the laureate bust of King George III with the inscription "GEORGIUS III DEI GRATIA REX" and the clear date 1798.Reverse Side: Features the traditional Manx Triskelion (three armored legs) along with the iconic regional Latin motto: "QUOCUNQUE JECERIS STABIT" ("Whithersoever you throw it, it will stand").Condition & Modification: The coin has been cleanly hand-drilled with two central holes, intended to securely thread it onto a heavy wool coat, cap, or greatcoat. It displays an attractive, dark aged-copper patina with honest historical wear to the high points. The lettering and details remain remarkably legible despite its long-ago utility as an everyday fastener.A wonderful cross-over collectible perfect for collectors of Isle of Man history, Georgian-era tokens, or unique antique folk art buttons!
