For sale is a vintage enamel badge issued by British Railways (BR), in nice condition too. This badge depicts one of a series of BR owned ships and was issued during the 1950s and 1960s to raise funds for their St. Christopher's Railway Servants Orphanage in Derby. This orphanage was opened in 1875 to care for children of railway workers killed in the course of their employment. St. Christopher’s could accommodate up to 300 children (boys and girls) from the ages of 6 to 15 years. From the early 1980’s, the orphanage stopped taking in children and later became a care-home for the elderly before it closed in 1993.

The Amsterdam III was a passenger ferry ship sailings between Harwich and the Hook of
Holland. The newly built ship sailed its maiden voyage on the 11th June 1950 and continued to sail the Harwich-Hook of Holland route until sold to Chandris Line in 1969. The new owners refitted her as a cruise ship and was renamed the Florita. Renamed the Ariane II in 1980, she served as an accommodation ship until shipwrecked in a storm on the 27th January 1987, when she capsized and sank at Fethaye in Turkey.
