African Tribal Style Wood Masks, Set of 2, One with Metal Inlay
Stylish pair of hand-carved wooden African-style tribal wall masks.
The larger mask (37cm/14.5in tall) has an elongated oval face with a raised central ridge running from the forehead to the nose, deep-set almond eyes picked out in white with dark painted brow ridges, a warm reddish-toned mouth, and a striated dark "hairline" carved at the crown. The finish shows a natural warm wood tone of the face and an ebonised/blackened detailing.
The smaller mask has a heart-shaped face tapering to a cone-shaped neck, with a decorative hammered metal (tin/aluminium) panel inlaid across the forehead and eye area,. It has a carved nose, painted red lips, and a scalloped carved rim at the crown.
Both pieces have leather hanging loops. They would make an eye-catching feature for a hallway, gallery wall or as a collector's decorative accent.
Please see photos for full detail, as they form part of the description.
(Note for buyers: these masks are made in the decorative "tourist art" tradition popular from the 1960s–1990s onward, produced for the export/home décor market rather than as ceremonial or ritual objects.)
