A Collection of Mid-Century Compacts. Tallent Enamel, Kigu, a Courting Couple Novelty Piece and a Henriette Pocket-Watch Compact

A lovely small collection of four vintage powder compacts, spanning Art Deco enamel work through to mid-century.

All four are gold-tone metal, and in good-to-excellent condition for their age, with typical light foxing to a couple of the mirrors (see photos) and only the very lightest signs of use. Three retain powder puffs.

1. Tallent — hand-painted enamel floral compact (8cm) A gorgeous compact by the English maker Tallent, with a wine/burgundy enamelled lid hand-decorated with a scattering of cornflowers, bluebells, primroses and a butterfly in soft blues, yellows and white. The interior lid carries the "Tallent" nameplate within an engine-turned surround. Unused condition — no powder residue and no puff included, just the clean mesh sifter.

2. Kigu — gold-tone compact with the maker's crown-and-crest trademark (6.2cm) A compact by the well-known English maker Kigu, identifiable by "KIGU" trademark stamped inside, alongside "Made in England" and "Patented" — the patent refers to Kigu's clever nail-friendly sliding catch, fitted here. Light foxing to the mirror.

3. Courting couple novelty compact (7.7cm) A charming compact decorated with a whimsical illustrated courtship scene - a couple in evening dress exchanging hearts, with doves, butterflies and flowers scattered around them. In the style of Vogue Vanities. Banded, engine-turned reverse. Stamped "Made in Great Britain" and "Pat No 75369" on the mirror surround. Contains its original powder/rouge and a used puff; light foxing to the mirror.

4. Henriette — pocket-watch-shaped novelty compact (7cm) A fun piece by Henriette, cased and shaped like a fob/pocket watch complete with a suspension ring, and decorated with a two-tone gold starburst floral medallion. The powder puff is branded "Henriette" in script. Unused condition; light foxing to the mirror.
