1830's - 1840''s Antique Masons Ironstone bowls. Hull and Leith Steam Packet Co. Rare
These two Mason’s Patent Ironstone soup bowls are a genuine piece of Victorian maritime history, custom-made for the Hull and Leith Steam Packet Company which operated between 1836 and 1847. They are quite rare and possibly unique.
They were designed for use in the dining saloons of early steamships crossing the North Sea, during the golden age of steam travel.
They feature a strikingly vibrant "Imari" pattern with deep cobalt blues and rich oranges that remain incredibly bright. Being made of Ironstone, they were built to be heavy and durable for life at sea. While there are some chips to the rear of both bowls and one has a small hairline crack, the glaze on both sides is undamaged and remarkably free of any crazing.
They are beautiful, solid display pieces that would stand out in any collection of fine pottery or maritime artifacts.
These bowls likely served passengers on famous early paddle steamers like the Pegasus or the Martello. A rare opportunity to own a tangible piece of the early steamship era that is almost never seen on the open market.
