Vintage Mid Century Hand Carved Dykehead Scotland Penguin Bovine Horn Figure

This is a fabulous figure of a penguin, made in Scotland c.1960s by Dykehead. Not much is known about the company other than that they specialised in carving horn items which were sold from a cottage on the road between Kilwinning and Irvine (North Ayrshire). It is thought they were active from the 1940s up until the '70s or '80s.

This cute penguin is skilfully hand-carved from cow horn - there is great detail in the little feet and the wings. He has two glass eyes and the original sticker which says, "Dykehead Real Horn, Made in Scotland"

It's lovely to see the natural striations of the horn - a fine example of Scottish craftsmanship and an ideal gift for a penguin lover or a great addition to your own collection.
In great condition apart from one little toe missing. Priced accordingly. Thank you.
