Pair of Antique Japanese Bronze Vases -Birds & Blossom - 40.5cm
A genuine mirrored pair — the birds and branches face inward, so they're composed to flank a display rather than simply match.
Condition: Very good for age. Casting crisp throughout, no losses to birds or branches, no cracks or repairs. Original dark chocolate-brown patina completely untouched — never polished, lacquered or restored. Light historic wear to the foot rims, some dust in the recesses.
Marks: Each has a circular cast foundry seal inside the foot, of the standard Meiji export type. The character 日 is legible; the remaining characters and the maker's name in the central medallion are worn and I have not been able to get a confirmed reading, so I'm not attributing them to any maker.
Detailed photographs of the seal are attached.
Dating: Stylistically consistent with Meiji-period (1868–1912) Japanese export bronze. Not independently verified.
