Large Vintage Italian Capodimonte Style Figurine. Hand Finished. Seated Gentleman with Pipe. 31cm . Made in Italy

Beautiful large vintage Italian character figurine depicting an elderly gentleman seated on a rustic chair, smoking his pipe while examining an object held in his other hand.

A wonderfully expressive piece, standing approximately 31 cm tall, with particularly good character modelling to the face, hands, clothing and unusual sculptural chair. The gentleman wears a broad green hat, dark coat with warm terracotta-coloured trim, boots and finely modelled trousers.

The underside retains its original Italian markings, including:

“MADE IN ITALY”
“INTERAMENTE LAVORATO A MANO”

The latter translates as “entirely worked/crafted by hand”, indicating the artisanal hand-finishing involved in its production.

The base also carries an N-type decorative factory/device mark, associated stylistically with the wider Italian Capodimonte tradition. I have deliberately photographed the complete underside so collectors can examine the markings themselves.

The figure belongs to the tradition of large Italian Capodimonte-style character sculptures popular during the mid-to-late 20th century. Comparable vintage Italian Sartori / Capodimonte figures are collected for their elaborate modelling and individually hand-finished decoration. Examples attributed to Sartori are currently offered by Italian dealers and collectors in the €130–€260 region depending on model, size and condition.
