La Musique - Julian Causse - Femme A La Mandoline
Beautiful Art Nouveau FEMME A LA MANDOLINE
A stunning, bronze patinated spelter lady mandolin player by the French sculptor Causse. She stands nearly 2 feet tall on a shaped base of verdigris marble which bears the plaque which reads 'La Musique - Par J. Causse (Beaux-Arts 1900)' - No doubt about the date then! She is also signed in the metal and includes some musical notation enscribed in the stand on which she rests her foot. Please email me for close-ups. She is naked except for a cloth miraculously draped over her thigh and she is holding a mandolin which appears to have its original strings attached. She has a beautiful face (and body), and she is well built in the typical nouveau style, with a large bust, hips etc. and her hair is up in a bun with a delightful wreath in her hair. This piece is stunning and in good condition . Julien Causse - Born at Bourges, worked 1890 - 1914, studied in Paris under Falguiere.
