African Burl Wood Head Hand Carved Woman Bust Zambia Style 28cm
Striking hand-carved African woman’s head sculpture, created from a naturally formed burl or root section.
The artist has carved and polished the face and neck while retaining the rough natural wood formation around the head and base, giving the piece a highly individual sculptural appearance.
Approximately 28 cm tall.
The carving resembles Zambian and wider Southern or East African ebony-burl head carvings. However, there is no surviving maker’s label or documented provenance, so the exact country, artist and wood species cannot be guaranteed. The wood is a dense dark hardwood and may be ebony.
Vintage condition with natural splits, cavities, bark or outer-wood losses, grain variation and irregularities inherent to the original burl. These natural features form part of the character of the sculpture. Please inspect all photographs carefully.
An unusual decorative carving with strong African folk-art and organic modern appeal.
