The Irish £1 Series B banknote features Queen Medb (Maeve), the legendary Queen of Connacht and one of the most iconic figures in Irish mythology. First issued by the Central Bank of Ireland on 10 June 1977, the note was part of the Series B banknotes, which celebrated Ireland's cultural heritage through historic and legendary figures. The reverse depicts a page from the Lebor na hUidre (Book of the Dun Cow), the oldest surviving manuscript written in Irish and home to the earliest recorded version of the Táin Bó Cúailnge, the epic in which Queen Medb plays a central role.
