This is Book number 608 of a Specially Bound Limited Edition of Nine Hundred Books Signed by the Author.

'Wicklow - A Personal View' by internationally renowned photographer, Walter Pfeiffer, is a stunning photographic essay portraying the beauty, diversity and evocativeness of the Garden County.

The book captures more than just the county's overall magic, but concentrates in particular on what Pfeiffer sees as its 'core beauty' - the extraordinary and breathtaking landscape of the Wicklow Mountains and Uplands.

According to film director John Boorman, 'these pictures both reveal and conceal the mysteries that landscape enshrines, and that imagination can sometimes decode'.

The Hon. Garech a Brœn introduces readers to a fascinating historical, social and musical account of the county, from the relevance of the O'Byrne and O'Toole clans, the effects of the Irish rebellion, to the discovery of Luggala.

Amusing and moving anecdotes from the role of St Kevin's Bus to luminaries such as Seamus Heaney, Paddy Maloney, Seán O'Riada and Marianne Faithfull are also recounted, possibly explaining why so many artists were often drawn back to this landscape, some even making it their home.

In 1964 Walter Pfeiffer left Germany for a month's holiday on the Aran Islands.

'I immediately fell in love with Ireland and two years later returned to make it my home, I knew I was here forever,' he said.

His career began as a freelance photographer and photojournalist and in 1970 he opened his first studio where he quickly became greatly respected in the worlds of fashion photography and advertising.

In 1976, an American publishing company commissioned Pfeiffer to produce a book on Waterford Crystal.

This was followed by the publication of the critically acclaimed and award winning 'In the Houses of Ireland', a book which was to become a bestseller in the UK, France and US.

In 1986 a collaboration with Sybil Connolly, Helen Dillon and Pfeiffer resulted in 'In an Irish Garden', the first pictorial book on the subject of Irish gardens.

Over the past 30 years, Pfeiffer has also produced his own range of posters. Selling successfully and globally, the 20 titles cover such subjects such as the Doors of Ireland, Pubs and Shops of Ireland and Dressers of Ireland. In 1999, he developed a complete range of Floral and Garden Image greeting cards.

His passion and deep love for nature has resulted in 'Wicklow - A Personal View' which portrays the fragile and unique landscape of County Wicklow which he believes is under great and increasing environmental pressures.

Walter Pfeiffer lives with his wife Valerie and their five children in Delgany.
