Geoffrey Chaucer was an English poet, writer and civil servant best known for The Canterbury Tales. He has been called the 'father of English literature', or alternatively, the 'father of English poetry'. He was the first writer to be buried in what has since become Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey.
Edited by Walter William Skeat, a renowned 19th/20th-century philologist, making Chaucer's Middle English accessible through standardized texts, notes, and introductions, famously published by Oxford University Press as part of The World's Classics series, a crucial resource for studying Chaucer's masterpieces like The Canterbury Tales and Troilus and Criseyde.
