Later they acquired property in County Wicklow, building a new residence now known as Russborough. In 1899, Geraldine, Dowager Countess of Milltown determined that the contents of Russborough be be gifted to the National Gallery, this was completed in 1902.
It was necessary to add a new wing to the original gallery to accommodate the paintings, sculpture, furniture, silverware, and library. The centre wing of the gallery is now referred to as the Milltown Wing.
