The Beckett Country - Eoin O'Brien - Samuel Beckett's Ireland - 1986 First Edition
The Beckett Country: Samuel Beckett's Ireland by Eoin O'Brien, with photography by David H. Davison.
A remarkable photographic and literary exploration of the Irish landscapes, streets, buildings and people that shaped Samuel Beckett's life and writing.
Rather than a conventional biography, the book traces the physical Ireland behind Beckett's imagination, from his childhood and Dublin connections to the roads, fields, pubs and rural landscapes reflected in his literary works.
Across more than 400 large-format pages, Eoin O'Brien combines literary history and extracts from Beckett's writing with atmospheric photographs, archival images and illustrations.
Particularly interesting are the photographs of old Dublin streets and pubs, rural Ireland, Beckett family locations and places associated with his life and work.
A fascinating book for Samuel Beckett enthusiasts, collectors of Irish literature and anyone interested in historical Irish photography and cultural history.
