This is the perfect book for the Sake beginners. It kicks off with a history of Sake brewing and covers the modern process. The tasting notes were an absolute eye opener.
Where this book really wins out is the extensive sections on Japanese culture relating to Sake and goes on to talk about food and social manners for banquets. I came away from this book knowing as much about dining and social behaviour as Sake.
For anyone who just wants to enjoy a cup, and doesn't want instructions on how to make it

As a die-hard sake fanatic, I own almost every English book on Japanese sake, all of which read much like stereo instruction and contain almost the exact same information. 'Sake, A Drinker's Guide' is the only book I've found that offers some unique history and interesting information beyond the technical basics of how sake is made and what to look for in a good bottle. This is truly written for anyone who just wants to enjoy a cup, and leaves the sommelier tips to the more pretentious publications.
