Die tierwelt Deutschlands und der angrenzenden meeresteile nach ihren merkmalen und ihrer lebensweise
Prof. Dr. Friedrich Dahl, curator emeritus at the Zoological Museum in Berlin, passed away at the age of 73 ( Anonymus 1929) .
Although an arthropod specialist by training, Dahl also studied other animal groups extensively, particularly during a stay in the Bismarck Archipelago (1896–1897), where he amassed a fairly extensive collection of bird skins, nests, and eggs for the Berlin Museum. Based on his experiences, he wrote a solid treatise, "The Life of Birds on the Bismarck Islands" (1899), which laid the foundation for all subsequent biological research in this archipelago. The Rhipidura dahli species he discovered on the Gazelle Peninsula bears his name. ( Anonymous 1929)
