‘Denialism’ comes in many forms – the planet isn’t warming; the Holocaust never happened; the Earth is flat – and the coronavirus pandemic has made these positions all the more acute. At a moment when anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists are rarely out of the news, sociologist Keith Kahn-Harris’s book is more topical than ever as it probes the reasons for why some people feel compelled to ignore hard evidence and forge their own beliefs.
Review
‘Kahn-Harris captures the seductions of organised denial, the creative energy which goes into it, its love-hate relationship with the Enlightenment, and the strange mutations through which it is passing in the age of Trump.’ --Dougald Hine
'An elegant exploration of how frail certainties really are, and how fragile truth is. While Kahn-Harris offers no easy answers in how to deal with “post-truth”, he does inspire you to act’. --Peter Pomerantsev
‘If you are seriously concerned by current trends and wish to understand them better, Kahn-Harris makes compelling reading.’ --Jewish Chronicle
