Elizabeth Lee was born in England and brought up in the Protestant faith. After meeting Roman Catholic nuns while teaching in Germany she decided this was the life she wanted. Her brother kidnapped her her to prevent her conversion but she converted in 1899 and entered the the Ursuline convent in Belgium. Her community evacuated to England during World War 1 and in 1919 she became a Benedictine nun at Macmine Castle, Co. Wexford. She moved with the community to Kylemore Abbey in 1920 and lived there until her death in 1952.
