5.0 out of 5 stars A good book on Japanese psychology leading up to WWII . . .
Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2023
The author lived in the Orient during the 1920-30s. He could see the psychological chasm that separated Occident from Orient, and that it wasn't likely to be bridged. He predicted war would come as a result. He apparently took a lot of criticism with the first 1930's edition of this book, being called a warmonger. But he had it right. He makes the case that war was inevitable.
I've read quite a few books on this period in Japan and this is one of the best, IMO. Close is a pretty astute observer of human nature.
