J. Rendel Harris edited the book, supervised the translations, and wrote the introduction. The original book was published in German under the title Armenien und Europa (Berlin, 1896). Dr. Johanhes Lepsius (1858-1926) was a German theologian and politician. He was the director of the "German Eastern Mission" and the "German Armenian Society," two leading aid organizations for Armenians. Known as a friend of Armenians, Lepsius, as a German missionary, conducted aid efforts for Christians in the East, particularly Armenians. His books on Armenians are among the most important sources for proving genocide allegations in the West. In the preface of his five-chapter book, Lepsius writes that in May 1896, he traveled extensively through Anatolia and Syria, as well as two provinces experiencing Armenian unrest and bloody incidents, and makes some very harsh accusations against Turkey and the Turks. This is an extremely rare book.
