Transition TransAM XL – Custom Steel Aggressive Hardtail

Selling my Transition TransAM – size XL, custom built from the frame up with a seriously good spec.

This isn’t an off-the-shelf TransAM. The bike was put together as a proper aggressive hardtail – simple, tough, capable and designed to be absolutely thrashed around the mountains, particularly through the Irish winter when you might prefer to leave the full-suspension bike at home.

The TransAM is a fantastic platform for this kind of build. The steel frame gives it that lovely compliant feel that you simply don’t get from an alloy hardtail, while the long, slack geometry and 150mm Marzocchi Bomber fork make it much more capable when the trail gets steep, rough and fast.

I’ve built it with quality components throughout rather than simply chasing a groupset badge. There’s a SRAM GX drivetrain, lightweight FSA carbon wheelset, powerful Lewis brakes with huge 203mm rotors front AND rear, FSA cockpit and a OneUp dropper.

The result is a hardtail that’s an absolute riot to ride.

It’s happy climbing to the top under its own steam, but point it downhill and it really comes alive. It’s long, slack, planted and confidence-inspiring, but still has that direct, playful feeling that makes a good steel hardtail so much fun.

WHY THIS BIKE?

If you’re looking for a lightweight XC bike, this probably isn’t it.

If you want a bombproof, aggressive steel hardtail that you can ride hard all winter, take into the mountains in horrible conditions, session trails on and generally have an absolute blast on, that’s exactly what it was built for.

The TransAM has proper enduro-hardtail DNA without the maintenance and complexity of a full-suspension bike. It’s also a great second bike for someone who already owns a full-sus and wants something completely different for winter riding.

Size XL – best suited to a taller rider.

Custom build with a lot of money spent on the components, particularly the carbon wheels, GX drivetrain, Lewis braking setup, OneUp dropper and Marzocchi fork.
