Victorian Gibson &Co Irish large Jewellery Box
William Gibson was born in 1838 and went on to be one our greatest gold and silversmith's.In 1864 he opened a retail outlet at Donegall place in Belfast and later in Regent street London. He received a royal appointment as a jewellery maker to the Queen..such was the high regard in which he was held. His logo changed to Messer's Gibson & Co in 1891..So you are looking at an 1870's or 80's piece of Irish memorabilia..The box is of wooden construction with a leatherette outer..The interior retains it's original ruffled rich silk top and velour bottom. The piece measures in old money 10.5x4.5x2.5".. Structurally very sound..hinges are very solid.. opening and locking perfectly..a few minor frilled leatherette edges..a very simple fix..This is a very rare beast and I genuinely have not seen another one this early.. Registered post available for an additional five euro. Thanks for looking please check out my other ads.
