United States National Defense Service Medal (NDSM)
This is an authentic, full-size U.S. military decoration established in 1953 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces for honorable active service during designated periods of national emergency or armed conflict.
Front: Features a North American bald eagle perched on a sword and palm branch, with the inscription "NATIONAL DEFENSE."
Back: Displays a shield from the Coat of Arms of the United States, surrounded by an open wreath of oak and laurel leaves.
The Ribbon has a distinctive design featuring a wide yellow center stripe, flanked by thin stripes of red, white, and blue, with wide red edges.
Hallmark: The reverse of the mounting bar is stamped with "CN-GI." This stands for Government Issue, signifying the medal was produced by an official contractor to military specifications.
Commonly known as the "Firewatch Ribbon," this medal has been issued for four major eras: the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the Global War on Terrorism (ended Dec 2022).
