Unique Item 1930s-40s Sterling Silver Legio Mariae Brooch. Legion of Mary.

Unique find, very hard to get anywhere these days.

Vintage legio mariae (legion of mary) sterling silver pin back given to the faithful of the catholic church who served the church on a voluntary basis under ecclesiastical guidance. The pin was manufactured by the j. Mcmaster company in providence, r. I. The legion of mary was founded by layman frank duff in 1921.

From research this pin was probably manufactured in the 30's or 40's. The pin is made of sterling silver with red and blue enamel accents. Description: the dove, which is the emblem of the holy spirit and has a red enamel accent sits on top of the crossbar which has the legio mariae inscription on it.

Between the cross-bar and staff is an oval frame with the image of the virgin mary which represents the immaculate conception and has a blue enamel accent.
