Scarce British WW2 economy plastic Beret badge Army Air Corps

Scarce British WW2 economy plastic Beret badge Army Air Corps Scarce British WW2 economy plastic Beret badge Army Air Corps Memorabilia

Superb example of a sort-lived Army Air Corps economy beret badge, manufactured in plastic by A. Stanley & Sons.
The concept of 'Total War' was introduced during the Second World War, where every activity in Britain contributed towards the ‘War Effort’.
In order to save brass to make bullets and shells as the war drew out, military cap badges and buttons were made from a type of plastic called Bakelite. They were not popular with soldiers, who would often throw them away if they could get an older brass badge as a replacement. These plastic cap badges have now become quite rare. They can be accurately dated to WW2, only had short life-span and have become very collectable as a result.
The Army Air Corps was only formed in 1942 to include the Glider Pilot Regiment, Parachute Battalions, Air Landing Regiments and Air Observation Squadrons. In 1944, the SAS Regiment was added to Corps strength.
This highly collectible example is in superb condition and retains the original brass tangs to the reverse.
Good colour and detail and fully marked to the reverse ‘A. Stanley & Sons - Walsall’ with the mould number ‘1-A’ indicating early striking.
Postage available.
