Rubin "Hurricane" Carter (1937–2014) was a fearsome American middleweight boxer turned civil rights activist who famously spent nearly 20 years in prison for murders he did not commit.

Known for his intimidating ring presence, his career was derailed by a wrongful conviction, after which he became a prominent advocate for the wrongly convicted.

His story was told in Bob Dylan's 1975 song "Hurricane" and the 1999 film The Hurricane, which starred Denzel Washington as Carter.
