RAOB (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes) medallion. 4th Degree Roll of Honor - regalia medallion (1930's or earlier).

This RAOB (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes) regalia medallion would originally have been sewn onto its blue sash, along with medallions of other designs. This would likely have belonged to an RAOB member of their highest rank, the Fourth Degree Roll of Honor. This brass medallion and enamel shows the letters RAOB and the words JUSTICE PHILANTHROPY TRUTH, the tenets by which members should serve by.


The RAOB were established in 1822, are still active and remain one of Britain‘s largest fraternal societies. The regalia and customs of the RAOB are based on the Masonic model and these are still followed. The RAOB organisation is overseen by the Grand Lodge of England and there are local branches (Lodges) throughout the UK and a few Lodges overseas. Today, the RAOB remains a fraternal society whose members carry out much work raising money for local charity needs, as well as assisting fellow members in times of need or difficulty.
